Seagrove Beach is a residential beach community on Scenic Highway 30A in South Walton County, Florida, sitting just east of Seaside and west of WaterSound. Unlike the master-planned New Urbanist towns that came later along 30A, Seagrove Beach predates the “30A” brand entirely — it was developed starting in 1949, more than three decades before Seaside opened its town square in 1981.
Seagrove Beach doesn’t try to look like a resort. It’s a mix of old Florida beach cottages and modern vacation rentals spread along quiet residential streets, with its small commercial core concentrated in Seagrove Plaza on County Highway 30A. Its defining natural feature is Eastern Lake, one of the rare coastal dune lakes found almost nowhere else in the world outside this stretch of the Florida Panhandle.

Eastern Lake
Eastern Lake is one of Seagrove Beach’s defining natural features — a coastal dune lake covering roughly 62 to 66 acres, part of a rare lake type found in only a handful of places on Earth, most of them right here along Florida’s Emerald Coast. A county park at the lake offers a boat launch, and the calm, tannin-stained water is a favorite spot for kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding away from the Gulf surf.
Like the other coastal dune lakes on 30A, Eastern Lake periodically breaches, or “outfalls,” to the Gulf of Mexico when sand dunes shift or heavy rain raises the water level enough to cut a channel to the sea. That connection is temporary and often closes again naturally, but it’s part of what makes these lakes ecologically unusual.
Santa Clara Regional Beach Access
Santa Clara Regional Beach Access, at 3468 E. County Highway 30A, is Seagrove Beach’s main public beach entrance and one of the more developed regional accesses on this stretch of 30A. It includes a boardwalk over the dunes, roughly 60 parking spaces, ADA-accessible facilities, and seasonal lifeguards.
Beyond Santa Clara, Seagrove Beach has around 20 smaller neighborhood beach accesses scattered along its residential streets — more public accesses than any other town on 30A — including walkovers at Greenwood, Hickory, Holly Street, Live Oak, Robert Ellis Street, San Juan, and the Scenic 395/30A intersection. Most are unmarked on maps but well known to locals, so a short drive or bike ride down nearly any side street toward the Gulf will usually turn up a public walkover.
