About the Rum Runner
Fruity, tropical, and vibrant, the Rum Runner combines Timber Creek Florida Rum with banana liqueur, blackberry liqueur, orange juice, and a float of grenadine for a layered, vacation-ready cocktail. It’s built to be sweet, colorful, and easy to drink on a hot day. The two fruit liqueurs, banana and blackberry, give the drink its signature depth, banana rounding things out with a soft, almost dessert-like sweetness, blackberry adding a darker, slightly tart fruit note underneath. Orange juice bridges the two, and grenadine adds both color and a final touch of sweetness on top.
Underneath all of that fruit, the rum still needs to register, and Timber Creek’s Florida Rum, distilled from grain and aged through the distillery’s PureBlend process of separate component blending, brings enough of its own character, a light caramel and molasses warmth, to keep the drink from tasting like straight fruit juice. To build it, shake the rum, banana liqueur, blackberry liqueur, and orange juice together with ice until well chilled. Strain into a hurricane glass filled with ice, then float the grenadine on top by pouring it slowly over the back of a spoon so it settles rather than mixing in immediately. Garnish with a maraschino cherry and an orange slice for the classic tiki-bar look.
This is a beach-day or poolside drink through and through. Grilled mahi-mahi or a plate of tropical fruit both pair naturally, echoing the same bright, fruit-forward flavors running through the cocktail itself. It’s also a strong choice for a summer party where guests want something visually striking and easy to sip. For a build without exact juice and grenadine measurements, a good starting point is roughly two ounces of orange juice and a half ounce of grenadine, adjusted from there to taste depending on how sweet or tart you prefer the finished drink.
A splash of pineapple juice, while not in the original ingredient list, is a common and welcome addition if you want extra tropical depth. Because the orange juice and grenadine in this recipe aren’t given specific measurements, build to taste and keep in mind that the liqueurs already carry real sweetness and alcohol of their own. Please enjoy responsibly, and only if you are of legal drinking age.
