About the Paddy Wallbanger

The Paddy Wallbanger is a stirred, spirit forward variation on the classic Harvey Wallbanger, built here on Timber Creek Florida Single Malt Whiskey and dry vermouth in equal measure, sharpened with a dash of orange bitters and finished with a small pour of Galliano L’Autentico, the vanilla and anise forward Italian liqueur that gives the original Wallbanger its signature flavor. Swapping in a single malt whiskey and dry vermouth for the usual vodka and orange juice turns this into a drier, more complex cocktail, with the Galliano’s sweet herbal spice sitting on top of the whiskey’s malt character rather than masking it with citrus. Timber Creek Florida Single Malt Whiskey is well suited to this treatment because it is distilled from malted grain grown and processed on the distillery’s own Crestview farm, then aged and blended through the PureBlend process, giving it a rich, biscuity malt profile with real depth that can hold its own against Galliano’s assertive vanilla and anise notes rather than disappearing under them.

To build it, stir the whiskey, dry vermouth, orange bitters, and Galliano together with ice until well chilled, and strain into a chilled coupe. It pours a golden amber and smells of vanilla, anise, and toasted grain. This is a good after dinner sipper for guests who enjoy a sweeter, more aromatic whiskey drink, and it pairs well with grilled chicken, citrus salad, shrimp cocktail, goat cheese, or cucumber salad.

A long stir with plenty of ice is worth the extra time here, since the goal is a fully chilled, lightly diluted drink where the malt, vermouth, and Galliano have had a chance to knit together rather than sitting as separate layers of flavor. Because the Galliano adds real sweetness and strength on top of the whiskey, sip it slowly and drink responsibly.
