What to Expect on Your First Visit to Timber Creek Distillery

First, you’re going to head away from the beach. Then you’ll pass the strip malls and leave the tourist corridor behind. Eventually, the road narrows under a canopy of oak trees. At that point, it may feel like you took a wrong turn. You didn’t.

Timber Creek Distillery sits on 240 acres of working farmland just north of Destin in Crestview, Florida. It is intentionally off the beaten path, and it is absolutely worth the drive. More importantly, this is a real grain-to-glass distillery where everything is made on site. As a result, it stands out as one of the most unique stops anywhere on the Emerald Coast.

Here’s what to expect before you go.

Getting There

The address is 6451 Lake Ella Road, Crestview, Florida 32539. Your GPS will get you close. However, the final stretch matters. Look for a small paved road covered by trees. Then watch the mailbox numbers carefully. The distillery is on the north side of the road. Even if it feels like you’ve gone too far, keep going.

From Destin, the drive is about 45 minutes north on US-85. From Fort Walton Beach, it takes around 40 minutes using the same route. If you are coming from 30A or Santa Rosa Beach, expect about an hour via US-331 North. Meanwhile, Pensacola is also about an hour away using I-10 East.

If you are coming from further out, use I-10 Exit 56 as your main landmark. After that, follow US-85 north and turn onto Lake Ella Road. From there, it is a straight shot.

Once you arrive, parking is easy. The property is flat, accessible, and has plenty of space.

What You’ll See When You Arrive

When you pull in, the first thing you notice is the quiet. You are on a working farm surrounded by pine forest and open land. Because of that, it feels completely different from the beach towns you just left. That contrast is part of the experience.

This is not a themed tasting room. Instead, Timber Creek is a real working distillery. Depending on the day, you may smell fermentation or hear equipment running. In addition, the still is visible through a large window from the main building. You are stepping directly into production, and that is what makes this place different.

Visitors often describe the drive as part of the experience. It is scenic, quiet, and feels like discovering something hidden.

You will also notice the dogs. The property is dog-friendly, and there are usually a few around to greet guests. You are welcome to bring your own as long as they are well-behaved.

Pick Your Experience

There are several ways to experience Timber Creek, and each one offers something different. For most people, the best place to start is the distillery tour and tasting, which walks through the entire grain-to-glass process and finishes with a guided tasting.

If you want something more hands-on, the bourbon blending experience allows you to taste individual grains and create your own custom bourbon. You leave with a full bottle, which makes it one of the most memorable options available.

For a slower pace, the wine and chocolate tasting pairs boutique wines with curated chocolates. It works well for couples or anyone who prefers wine over spirits.

There are also options that do not revolve around drinking. For example, axe throwing is available during the week and is great for groups or families.

On Saturdays, the atmosphere changes completely with Pizza Saturdays, where the wood-fired oven runs throughout the day. It becomes an easy, relaxed afternoon with food, drinks, and open space.

Practical Things to Know Before You Go

The distillery operates Monday through Wednesday from 8am to 2pm, is closed on Thursday, open again Friday from 8am to 2pm, and runs extended hours on Saturday from 8am to 4pm. It is closed on Sunday.

Reservations are strongly recommended, especially on weekends. Because experiences are guided, space can fill up quickly.

All ages are welcome on the property. However, tastings and blending experiences are 21 and up, and a valid ID is required.

Dogs are allowed, but they should be leashed and supervised. Since this is a working farm, comfortable shoes are a better choice than sandals. In addition, plan to spend at least 1.5 to 3 hours, although most people stay longer.

Because Timber Creek operates off-grid, it is important to check updates before visiting. If something unexpected happens, it will be posted on Facebook or Instagram, especially on Saturdays.

Make a Day of It

Timber Creek works best as the centerpiece of an inland afternoon rather than a quick stop. For example, many visitors leave the coast in the morning, spend a few hours at the distillery, and then explore Crestview before heading back toward the beach.

If you are planning a longer trip, Timber Creek fits naturally into a broader Emerald Coast itinerary. You might spend time in Destin, drive along 30A, explore Pensacola, or visit Fort Walton Beach, Niceville, and Crestview. Since the distillery sits centrally between these areas, it makes for an easy and worthwhile detour.
